Town Centre Stop

Town Centre Stop (市中心站) is a Light Rail stop located west of Tuen Mun Park, Tuen Mun Heung Sze Wui Road, Tuen Mun Town Centre, Tuen Mun District, and is located at in Fare Zone 2.

Stop Facilities[]

This stop has 4 Platforms^[1]. There are stairs at the north and south ends connected to the pedestrian bridge, which is convenient for passengers to go to and from Tuen Mun Park, Tuen Mun Cultural Plaza, Tuen Mun Town Hall, Tuen Mun Town Plaza, etc. There are pedestrian crossings on the south side of all platforms, connecting the sidewalk on the side of platform 1 and Light Rail Customer Service Centre, and there are stairs on the north side of platform 4 leading to Tuen Mun Park bus stop.

Fare remarks
Ticket QR codes, inductive cards (credit or debit cards, and their bonded smartphones or watches) or the "China T-union" cards are not applicable to the Light Rail. Single Journey Ticket is only suitable for journeys following the direction towards the stop in the shown fare zone printed on the ticket. Passengers who wish to travel to stops other than the direction not shown on the ticket or stop outside the shown fare zone should purchase another suitable ticket prior to boarding. Fare concessions are available to passengers aged 3-11 and 65 or above. Passengers aged 12-64 (whose Personalised Octopus does not have "Student Status"/"Persons with Disabilities Status") must pay an adult fare. If more than two children under the age of 3 are travelling on the Octopus, all excess children must use a Child Ticket. All eligible students can enjoy concessionary fares on all Light Rail routes by using their Personalised Octopus with Student Status. Eligible students travelling on the Light Rail using a Single Journey Ticket are required to pay an adult fare. Under the Government's "Public Transport Fare Concession Scheme for Elderly and Eligible Persons with Disabilities", Hong Kong residents aged 60 or above using the "JoyYou Card" and eligible persons with disabilities using the "Persons with Disabilities" personalised Octopus (including the "JoyYou Card") pay only $2 or the concessionary fare for each trip on the Light Rail service at any time (whichever is lower; however, those aged 60-64 using the JoyYou Card are charged a flat rate of $2). Seniors using a single-journey ticket on the Light Rail must pay the concessionary fare. Eligible persons with disabilities aged 3-11 using a single-journey ticket on the Light Rail are entitled to the concessionary fare. Hong Kong residents aged 60-64 and eligible persons with disabilities aged 12-64 using a single-journey ticket on the Light Rail must pay the adult fare. Octopus cards (including the JoyYou Card and the Monthly Pass) are valid for two hours after confirmation or after the sale of a single-journey ticket, which will expire and become invalid after the period. Confirmed Octopus cards (including "JoyYou Card" and Monthly Pass)/designated smart tickets or single journey tickets are only valid for a single-direction journey from the confirmed entry stop or ticket purchase stop to another stop, without any intermediate stops. For return trips or subsequent journeys (including all circular routes), passengers must re-validate their Octopus card/designated smart ticket or purchase an appropriate ticket separately. The Ticket QR Code, Inductive Cards (credit or debit cards, and their bonded smartphones or watches) and China T-union are not applicable to travelling on the Light Rail. Passengers are advised to use their Octopus or purchase a valid ticket for travelling on the Light Rail. The use of tickets is subject to the Mass Transit Railway (North-west Railway) By-laws, notices and conditions of issue. The surcharge for fare evasion is $370. Passengers who wish to enjoy free MTR and/or MTR Bus interchanges must use an Octopus with a positive Octopus balance and travel in the following pattern: Between Light Rail and MTR Passengers must interchange within 30 minutes after tapping their cards at MTR exit gates or Light Rail Stop Exit Processors. This interchange discount is applicable only to Octopus users and Light Rail journeys with an adult fare of $5.1 (fares for children, elderly and eligible students are $2.4) or lower. Between Light Rail/MTR and MTR Bus - From Light Rail/MTR to MTR Bus Passengers must interchange to MTR Bus within 60 minutes of exiting gates. When interchanging from MTR Bus to Light Rail/MTR, passengers must interchange to Light Rail/MTR within 60 minutes of validation on Octopus processor onboard a bus. Passengers who enter or exit at the same Light Rail stop are not entitled to this interchange concession. From Light Rail/MTR Bus to MTR (Tuen Ma Line), then interchanging to Light Rail/MTR Bus The whole journey must be completed within 2 hours. Passengers holding a "China T-union" One Card with Octopus will be able to use it as a normal Octopus, including travelling on the Light Rail and enjoying relevant fare concessions (where applicable).

The MTR Free Shuttle Bus stop for this LR Stop is located at LR Town Centre Stop bus stop (northbound)^[2] and Tuen Mun Town Centre bus stop (southbound), please follow instructions from staff to proceed to the boarding point.
MTR Free Shuttle Bus services operate only during Light Rail service disruptions, please refer to announcements from MTR or notices posted at LR Stops for details.

History[]

This stop was opened on 18 September 1988.

Since this stop has two platforms in each direction, in the 1990s, a group sat on one of the tracks at this stop to protest the fare increase of Light Rail, but basically there was no blockage of Template:Light Rail (KCR) traffic.

In conjunction with the Light Rail project attached to the Template:Kowloon-Guangzhou West Rail project, from August to September of 2003, part of the platform at this stop was decommissioned in stages to accommodate the new tracks of Pui To Road Viaduct are connected to the tracks of this stop.

Starting from 22 July 2010, this stop began to test train arrival announcements, becoming the second stop to conduct this test, and a new broadcast will be replaced from 10 August.

After the protest on 21 September 2019, demonstrators destroyed the stop facilities and closed-circuit television.

Later, platforms 2 and 3 were closed due to arson and the switch of this stop was damaged and rendered inoperable, and have been closed to this day (as of 11 March 2023). Routes using these two platforms Instead, use platforms 1 and 4 for drop-off and drop-off. A representative of the MTR Corporation responded to the former Tuen Mun District Councilor saying that after reviewing the passenger flow on the platform at this stop, it is believed that the current operation is smooth, and platforms 2 and 3 are temporarily reserved for backup purposes. In addition, the Light Rail Customer Service Centre at this stop is still out of service.

Usage[]

Town Centre stop is located in Tuen Mun Town Centre, close to many large shopping malls and community facilities (such as town halls, parks, etc.). Therefore, the flow of people is very high, and Sardines often occur on weekends.
