Ridership[]

This station is connected to a large shopping mall (Tuen Mun Town Plaza) and the largest Hong Kong Jockey Club betting centre in Hong Kong, and its proximity to the San Hui area means that it is the most heavily used of the five stops on the Northeast Tuen Mun Extension due to its high patronage (the station is even busier on race days).

In contrast to most of the stops, the peak flow of passengers at this stop is concentrated in the daytime off-peak hours, while the morning rush hour is generally quieter.

It is also a major source of passengers for the two Light Rail routes that run through it, as a large number of passengers use it during the off-peak hours in the daytime. However, due to the infrequent frequency of the route, the service is often in short supply, with overcrowding occurring from time to time at Platform 1 in a cramped environment.

Connecting transport[]

Emergency feeder services[]

There is no MTR Free Shuttle Bus service provided at this stop. Please use other public transport services or consider walking in case of Light Rail service disruptions.

Information about other public transport services can be accessed at the Transport Department website.

History[]

This stop was opened on 2 February 1992 as part of the Tuen Mun Northeast Extension.

The rear staircase at Platform 1 of this stop was decommissioned and dismantled to facilitate the construction of the Pui To Road Elevated Track, but was rebuilt after the completion of the project with the addition of a lift. The reconstruction was the first time the kcr used glass for the roof and fencing.

In August 2011, the lifts at Platform 1 had to be relocated to cope with the reconstruction and improvement of the Tuen Mun Road underneath the station. The contractor constructed an additional lift at the head of Platform 2 to replace the lift which had to be relocated due to the reconstruction and improvement works of Tuen Mun Road. The lift was commissioned on 21 November 2011 and the lift at Platform 1 was subsequently dismantled. The area at Platform 1 leading to the lift is now used for storage of refuse bins and the passageway is closed and locked.[1][2]
