Peak Hours or Rush Hours refers to the morning and afternoon periods on weekdays, during which a large number of passengers commute (that is, to and from their residences and work/school locations), using commuting vehicles There are more passengers during this period than during non-peak hours. In order to cope with higher passenger volume, train frequencies will usually be more than non-peak hours, but carriage occupancy rate (crowding degree) will usually be higher.

In Hong Kong, the peak hours are about 7:00 am to 9:00 am and 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, but for traffic in remote areas such as theLight Rail, the morning and afternoon peak hours start and end earlier and later respectively, for example, the morning peak hour (morning rush) starts at 6:30 am, and the afternoon peak hour (night peak/evening peak) is between 5:00 pm at 8:00 pm.

In terms of Saturdays, many companies have implemented a five-day work week in recent years, resulting in lower passenger numbers during peak hours on Saturdays (especially morning peak hours) than Monday to Friday. Therefore, some railway lines in Hong Kong do not have peak hours on Saturdays.

On Sundays and Public Holidays, due to the scattered time of passengers traveling and the lower passenger volume at the same time period, frequencies are usually less frequent than usual. However, congestion in vehicles still occurs from time to time on such days, especially when large public events (including large exhibitions and demonstrations) are held.
