Nam Cheong Station is an MTR station located in the West Kowloon Reclamation Area, Sham Shui Po District, Kowloon. It is a interchange station between the Tuen Ma Line and the Tung Chung Line. The station was built on New Kowloon Inner Lot 6436 between Tonkin Street, Lin Cheung Road and Yen Chow Street West, between Fu Cheong Estate and Cheung Sha Wan Market. Part of the station is also underneath the West Kowloon Highway.

The station covers an area of about 28,000 square metres and was originally the terminus of the KCR West Rail (now a part of the Tuen Ma Line) until 2009, when the Kowloon Southern Link opened extending the West Rail Line to Hung Hom. When the station opened, it was also the only one on both railways' networks to be shared by both KCRC and MTR, being jointly managed by both operators. In fact, platform announcements for the Tung Chung Line once used KCRC announcements.

Station Symbols[]

The main colours of Nam Cheong are pale yellow and light blue. While the concourse and platform columns feature pale yellow tiles, the walls have light blue panels.

Station Layout[]

Nam Cheong Station is roughly divided into two floors. All four platforms are located on the ground level, with the Tuen Ma Line platforms in tunnel on both sides. The concourse is below the four platforms in the basement, while the upper floor is not accessible to passengers.

Since the station was designed with both railway networks in mind before the merger, both concourses were located in the basement with separately managed areas. Despite the platforms on the citybound Tung Chung Line and Tuen Mun-bound West Rail Line being next to each other, they were partitioned by a wall. This required transferring passengers to take an escalator or lift to the concourse, pass through two sets of turnstiles, then take another escalator or elevator to their desired platform. This would take about a 3 minute walk.

In 2007, following the merger of the two railways, the paid areas were integrated into one area. In addition, MTR had holes punched through the partition between the citybound Tung Chung Line platform and the Tuen Mun-bound West Rail Line platform, with ramps installed to facilitate movement. Consequently, this made an island platform between the separate areas.

Platform[]

There are four platforms in Nanchang Station, which belong to the Tung Chung Line and Tuen Ma Line, located on the ground floor. The four platforms were originally side platforms. Platforms 1 and 4 were separated by main walls because they belonged to the KCRC and MTR respectively.

After the merger of the two railways and in conjunction with the merger of the gate areas, the MTR opened seven passages on the wall and set up ramps to connect the two platforms. Since then, the two platforms have become the same Island Platforms.
