Light Rail Route 610 runs between Yuen Long and Tuen Mun Ferry Pier, passing through Castle Peak Road, Hung Shui Kiu, Tuen Mun Hospital, Tai Hing and Lung Mun.
This is the only existing route among the earliest Light Rail routes, which is regarded as one of the signature Light Rail routes. It has the same alignment with Route 615 other than the section between Tuen Mun Hospital and Tai Hing (North).
History[]
- 18 September 1988: The first phase of the Light Rail Transit was opened with three Light Railroutes between Tuen Mun and Yuen Long launched on that day, namely 610, 611 and 612 (this route and 611 ran up till Tuen Mun Ferry Pier, and 612 ran only up till Yau Oi).
- 1989: The southbound route detoured via Kei Lun Stop temporarily in conjunction with the construction of the Fung Tei Viaduct on the Northeast Tuen Mun Extension.[1]
- 17 April 1989: The number of all return trains ending at San Shek Wan is shown as 610D. This arrangement was cancelled in around 1995.[2]
- 23 March 2002: In conjunction with the reconstruction of Siu Hong, the temporary platform on the north side of the stop was used during certain periods of time until 9 November 2003, when the reconstruction works were completed.
- 8 October 2006: With the cancellation of Light Rail Route 761, the Light Rail route map was replaced with the route's colour being changed to brown.
- After the rail merger: The pronunciation of this route on the announcement system was changed from "Six One O" to "Six One Zero"
- 6 May 2011, 11:00 am to 12:00 pm: Changed to use Platform 6 for loading and unloading with the emergency works to be carried out at Platform 4 of Tuen Mun Ferry Pier Stop.
- 21 January 2004: Overnight service was added on the night of the Chinese New Year's Eve (Lunar New Year's Day).
- 28 September 2014: The following changes were implemented starting from early morning of the same day (counted as 27 September in terms of operation day), the service hours were extended to connect with the last train of the West Rail Line to facilitate passengers to interchange with this route at Siu Hong Stop:
- The last train to Tuen Mun Ferry Pier was delayed to depart at 00:44, which would arrive at Siu Hong Stop at 01:04, connecting to stops en-route from Tuen Mun Hospital to Tuen Mun Ferry Pier.
- The operational regulation with Route 761P at around 22:35 on Mondays to Fridays was cancelled and the concerned departure remained being operated by one-car trainset with the train number 054.
- 24 December 2014: Overnight service was added for Christmas Eve.[3]
- 31 December 2014: Overnight service was added for New Year's Eve.[3]
- 27 September 2015: Overnight service was added for Mid-Autumn Festival.[4]
- 20 June 2021: The last train from Yuen Long was delayed to 00:51 and that from Tuen Mun Ferry Pier to 00:36 to facilitate the delaying of last train hours of West Rail Line to facilitate the full opening of Tuen Ma Line one week later.
KCRC had planned to show the numbering of the return trains terminating at Hung Shui Kiu or Siu Hong on this route as 610D, but this was not implemented in the end.[5]
