Kowloon Station (九龍站) is an intermediate station of the MTR Airport Express and Tung Chung Line. It is located at No. 1 Austin Road West, West Kowloon, Yau Tsim Mong District, Kowloon, near the Kowloon entrance of the Western Harbour Tunnel and its toll plaza.

Among the seven stations of the Airport Express, Kowloon Station is the largest one. It is an underground station, and the station lobby is located on the ground floor; the comprehensive development area on the top is called "Union Square", covering an area of 13.54 hectares, including residential buildings, office buildings, "Civic Square" "Shopping malls and hotels.

West Rail Line Extension (Kowloon Southern Link) Austin Station is located to the east of Kowloon Station. After the station opened to traffic, there will be no discounts for taking the for transfering between the two stations on foot. Passengers can take the Airport Express at Kowloon Station, where they can enjoy free MTR shuttle services at both stations.

Station Symbol[]

Like other Airport Express stations, Kowloon Station is dominated by light gray. When planning the airport railway, the subway company regarded Airport Express as an extension of the Hong Kong International Airport, and the design of the airport follows the gray and white tone that its designer, the British architect Lord Norman Foster, has always used, so {{ Each station of the Airport Express line also inherits the color of the airport, using gray and white as the main colors of the station, which is different from the colorful subway stations in the past. Kowloon Station Platform 1 (June 2010)

There are two platforms in Kowloon Station, the upper level (L2 level) is used by Airport Express, and the lower level (L4 level) is the Tung Chung Line platform. The two platforms of Airport Express are side platforms, while the Tung Chung Line is designed as a single platform island.

Since the two lines adopt different tolling systems, there is no continuous channel between the platforms, and the two platforms of Airport Express are even separated by the Tung Chung Line lobby and the platform The escalators in between are separated, so they are not connected to each other.

In addition, there is a confined space under the platform level of Tung Chung Line, which was originally planned as the eastern corridor " East Kowloon Line", so it was reserved when Kowloon Station was built.

However, the East Kowloon Line plan evolved into today's Sha Tin to Central Link, and no longer proposes to set up a station at Kowloon Station, so the confined space of Kowloon Station will no longer be useful in the foreseeable future.

Buildings Department and ArchSD inspections have confirmed the structural safety. The project contractor will formulate mitigation measures to reduce the impact on the railway facilities. The government pointed out that during the foundation works of the project to relocate the operational support facilities, firefighting club and other firefighting facilities of the Tsim Sha Tsui Fire Station to To Wah Road, Kowloon, one of the tunnels between the Kowloon Station and the Olympic Station of the MTR Tung Chung Line was monitored The settlement record at the point reached 20.27 mm on the 7th of this month, slightly exceeding the preset stoppage indicator (20 mm). At the request of MTR, related works in the railway protection area were suspended on the same day. The above-mentioned monitoring points are set up by the MTR Corporation in accordance with the established procedures of the railway protection zone, so that the MTR Corporation can monitor the settlement data and ensure that the structure and operation safety of the railway facilities will not be affected by the relevant projects. The Buildings Department and the Architectural Services Department have sent personnel to inspect the relevant railway tunnel to confirm its structural safety. The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department has reviewed the monitoring records submitted by the MTR Corporation related to railway operation safety and confirmed that the railway conditions meet the requirements for safe operation. The above-mentioned construction works have not affected the structure of the railway facilities and the safety of railway operation. The Architectural Services Department and the MTR Corporation will continue to closely monitor the situation and maintain close communication with the Buildings Department and the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department to ensure that the structure of the railway facility and the safety of the railway operation will not be affected. The contractor responsible for the project has also been asked to formulate mitigation measures. And adopt construction methods that reduce the impact on railway facilities. The Hong Kong government continued to point out that if the project contractor's mitigation measures and resumption requirements are received, the ArchSD will strictly review the application based on the principle of ensuring the structural safety of the railway facilities, including consulting the MTR Corporation and other relevant government departments. The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department will also confirm that the MTR Corporation has strict monitoring measures to continue to ensure the safety of railway operations. In addition, if the project contractor also proposes to adjust the monitoring indicators for suspending related projects, the ArchSD will also consider the project contractor’s suggestion according to the situation after consulting the MTR Corporation and other relevant government departments. When the request for resumption of work is accepted, the Architectural Services Department, the Buildings Department and the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department will make an announcement to the public. The MTR stated that since July 2020, the MTR has been closely monitoring the construction site of the Tsim Sha Tsui Fire Station Complex, and asked the contractor to set up monitoring points at multiple locations in the railway tunnel between Kowloon Station and Olympic Station to monitor settlement data. During the monitoring of the MTR Railway Protection Team on the 7th of this month, it was discovered that the subsidence recorded at some monitoring points reached the preset target of 20 mm. MTR, in conjunction with relevant government departments, requested the registered construction professionals of the construction project to suspend related works that caused the settlement. After inspection, the company has confirmed that the safety and operation of the railway will not be affected, and will continue to monitor to ensure safety. [3]
